Everything you need to know about Boat Charter Terms and Conditions

Navigating the seas can be a dream come true, but before setting sail, it is important to understand the intricacies of boat charter agreements. Grasping the terms and conditions attached to yacht charters is essential for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey. This guide will help you navigate the often-complex world of charter agreements, with a specific look at the terms offered by Bruneko Yacht Charter.

Understanding the Basics of Charter Agreements

Charter agreements are legal documents that outline the specifics of renting a boat. Whether you are opting for a yacht charter in Croatia or hiring a vessel elsewhere, these contracts secure both parties' rights and responsibilities. They typically include information such as the duration of the rental, costs involved, and the obligations of both the charterer and the owner.

Key Elements in Charter Contracts

  • Charter Duration: Precise start and end dates are essential for avoiding scheduling conflicts and extra fees.
  • Payment & Pricing Breakdown: Fully understand the base charter fee, what services are included (e.g., cleaning, linen), and the amount and purpose of the security deposit.
  • Vessel Condition (Check-In List): A detailed check-in list is crucial! It documents the boat's condition before your charter, protecting you from being wrongly blamed for pre-existing damage. Make sure you carefully review and agree with this list.
  • Rights & Responsibilities: Know who's in charge of what. The agreement should clearly outline who is responsible for navigation, fueling, and other key tasks.

Why are Terms and Conditions Vital in Yacht Charters?

Clear terms protect both the charter company and you, minimizing misunderstandings and promoting transparency.

How to Review Charter Terms

  • Read Carefully: Don't just skim! Understand every clause, no matter how small. This is a legally binding document.
  • Ask Questions: If anything is unclear, contact the charter company for clarification. Don't hesitate to ask; it's better to understand upfront.
  • Cancellation Policies: Carefully note the cancellation terms and deadlines. Life happens, so know the potential costs of changing your plans.

Bruneko Yacht Charter Key Terms Explained

Let's break down the most crucial aspects of Bruneko's charter agreement:

  • Charter Price, What's Included (and What's Not): The base price covers the yacht itself, standard equipment, and Croatian taxes. Remember that fuel, mooring fees outside our base marina, and extras are not included.
  • Your Core Responsibilities: As the charterer, you are responsible for providing an accurate crew list, returning the boat on time and in good order, and, of course, operating the yacht responsibly and safely.
  • Skipper Qualifications: The skipper must possess valid certifications for the intended sailing area. We may verify these credentials to ensure the safety of all on board.

What if Things Go Wrong?

  • If we can't provide the yacht, you're entitled to a refund for lost days.
  • You're responsible for damage caused by negligence, up to the amount of your deposit.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation more than 60 days before charter: 30% of the fee is retained.
  • Cancellation 31-59 days before: 50% is retained.
  • Cancellation within 30 days: Full fee is due. Consider charter cancellation insurance!

Important Considerations for Your Safety and Enjoyment

  • High Wind Policy: Always follow the base manager's instructions regarding sailing in high winds (generally, sustained winds over 25 knots). Your safety is paramount.
  • Navigation Reliance: Remember that chartplotters are navigation aids only. Always rely on official nautical charts for primary navigation.
  • Personal Items: Bruneko is not responsible for lost or forgotten personal belongings.

Insurance Coverage - Know What's Protected

  • The yacht is covered by comprehensive insurance, but this does not cover damage resulting from gross negligence or intentional acts.
  • We highly recommend obtaining skipper's liability insurance for added protection.

Your Security Deposit - Peace of Mind

  • The security deposit covers damage to the yacht up to the deposit amount, provided it's not due to gross negligence or intentional actions.
  • The deposit will be promptly refunded upon the yacht's return in undamaged condition.

Other Important Details

  • Fuel canisters and outboard canisters do not need to be handed over. However, the yacht must be returned with a full tank.
  • The charter customer must immediately inform the base of any damage or problems and follow the instructions given by the base manager

Data Protection

  • We comply with GDPR (data protection regulations).

In Conclusion

Arming yourself with a solid understanding of these key terms is the best way to ensure a smooth and worry-free sailing adventure. We strongly encourage you to carefully review the full terms and conditions document before confirming your booking. Happy sailing!
